Acts 13 Marseille
For international mission organisations, France is among the countries considered “least reached”.
Marseille is a city that has grown far faster than the Christian witness and presence within it.
French urban policy, which favours high housing capacity at the expense of spaces for community life, has made the missionary and social work of the church difficult — if only through the lack of dedicated space in urban planning.
Even today, the church struggles to establish itself in certain districts, with less than one living church for every 50,000 inhabitants.
From the top of a hill in the middle of the city, whichever way you look, you can always make out areas of more than 50,000 inhabitants where there are no churches — and therefore no Christians whose gatherings bear witness to the love of Jesus Christ.
Acts 13 Marseille is the desire to change this, with the ambition of planting 3 churches by 2040 in the following neighbourhoods:
- 11th Arr. / La Valentine
- 13th Arr. / Château Gombert
- 7th Arr. / Corniche
Acts 13 Marseille is also about training and sending Christians to live out their witness even beyond Marseille. Our vision is for Marseille to become a hub for mission in the Mediterranean context, and more broadly in urban and multicultural settings, notably through transnational European partnerships.
Our vision will be to offer short-term mission trips where you can:
- get to know the missionary context of Marseille
- be a blessing for the Church through cross-cultural exchange
- discover the region with local Christians
Transnational partnerships
Our experience across borders has shown us that faith grows all the better when it is not confined to a single culture and language. That is why we especially care about keeping our transnational fraternal ties for the sake of mission.
Liebenzell Mission is the German missionary society that sends us to serve in Marseille. It has around 250 missionaries active on five continents, in some twenty countries.
Liebenzell Mission – With God from person to person
We work worldwide so that people may encounter Jesus. Together with local partners, we plant churches, provide training, help in emergencies, and live out Christian neighbourly love.
France Mission is a British charitable organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting missionary efforts in France. It is the historic partner of the France-Mission church union, which became Perspectives after its merger with Vision-France in 2018. It especially informs British Christians who care deeply about France, organises prayer gatherings, and collects donations for churches and missionary works in France.
